Our work is exciting…
Our goal is to bring together a group of leaders to help achieve MORE nature and sustainability outcomes as part of hosting the Olympics
With over 200 members we can help you quickly find contacts who will help with your pain points and build your impact
We’re starting out with roundtables, visioning, and making introductions for people across unexpected boundaries.
Here’s a look at what we’re doing next
Our next events
On 22 August we will have an afternoon visit to the Food Connect Shed hosted by Kellie Charlesworth and Rob Pekin. We’ll start at 3pm for a tour and then enjoy some of the team’s hospitality and connect informally.
Please click here to register. Numbers are capped at 35 and this is a face-to-face event at 3pm in Salisbury in Brisbane.
In October we will be hosted by Max Goonan and Brad Wood GHD in Brisbane for a hybrid event - please sign up for our updates so you receive your invitation. The working topic for this event is ‘What does Nature mean for cities and our Olympics? and we have some exciting international speakers who will join the conversation.
Food
The Olympics presents an opportunity for Australia portray to the world what we stand for, colouring in our national identity through narratives of landscapes, communities and food.
Dr Cathy Robinson from CSIRO is working up a dirt track plan and convening conversations about the business models that will support and enable indigenous food and botanicals production, bringing in experts from CSIRO, the Liveris Academy at the University of Queensland, and a range of innovative thought leaders. The first draft of the Dirt Track is available here. Reach out to Cathy to connect with this theme of work.
Next steps are a series of conversations bringing in grass roots contributions in Brisbane, the Sunshine Coast, and beyond.
Swimmable Cities
Rhyl Jones McCoy is drawing together energy for swimmable Brisbane and would love to hear from you if you’re keen to help. Rhyl is convening a River Lab session on Swimmable Brisbane at the 26th International River Symposium in Brisbane in September. You can register here.
Procurement
Sumone Unanue from Arup is helping shape a procurement online/ possibly hybrid event. Sumone was the Sustainability Operations Manager for the Equestrian Centre during the Rio 2016 Olympics. Let us know if you would like to help.
We also have energy behind some new ideas including:
Bringing new sustainability based business ideas from other countries so that we can ‘leap frog’ some of the development stages and build them here
Turning the brown snake blue by 32 - which is technically possible, with an opportunity for Queensland to raise the bar in what countries do as part of their legacies
Creating the ‘pull’ for circular clothing and textiles, for the volunteers, the fans, and hopefully also the athletes
Supply chain activation in pursuit of net zero, to support SMEs be ready for future procurement
